Hi
I was referred by my GP in early January to my local breast clinic where I attended a triple breast assessment including MRI, Mammogram, Biopsy and Ultrasound. My symptoms are a dimple under my left nipple and some discharge which is yellow in colour.
The consultant said he's pretty sure it's nothing to worry about but they did the tests just to make sure, I was then told by the nurse that the results would be ready in 3 weeks which brings me to this week. I called the clinic and spoke to the receptionist as I noticed an appointment has been set up at the breast surgery unit, they lady I spoke to said she can't give me any results over the phone and I am to bring someone with me which has sent me into a panic and my anxiety levels have gone through the roof. The appointment is on March 18th which is over 3 months since my original GP referral.
Some questions:
-Is it common practice not to give results out over the phone ,good or bad?
-Is it common practice to ask a patient to bring someone with me if it's good or bad news?
- Would going private help me to get my results sooner?
-Can the hospital refuse to give me my results if I ask for it over the phone?
Thanks in advance.
S
