Starting to wonder if my results have been shipped to the Moon

Hi Everyone,

Still waiting 4 weeks on since I had a wide excision breast biopsy. My journey started back in November and I am starting to feel stressed with all the waiting. I know no news is good news but my patience is wearing thin. Has anyone waited as long for their results?

I try to keep busy, going back to work next week, so that might be a distraction.

I am in Scotland.

  • Hi Polli,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I hope that you are recovering well from your surgery. I am sorry to hear that you have been waiting so long for your post-surgery results. Most are returned within about 2 weeks, although some can take a little longer in certain parts of the country. Why not phone your breast care nurse and ask what the hold up is?  You may have to leave a message, but the nurses usually get back to you as soon as they can. This is always a stressful wait, so I hope that you hear something soon.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

I haven't been allocated a breast care nurse that I am aware of. I will phone my surgeon's secretary on Monday to see if I can find some information.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Polli,

Your breast care secretary should know whether the results are back yet or not.

I hope that you get your results soon.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you Jolamine. I go back to work tomorrow. I will call when I get home. I really appreciate all the info as some things were not explained enough to realise who to call.

  • Hi Polli,

You are usually given allocated a specialist breast care nurse around the time of your initial diagnosis, so don't be afraid to ask for her telephone number, either when you speak to the secretary, or next time you are at the hospital. The secretary's often finish work at about 4.30 - 4.45pm.

I hope that all goes well for you when you go back to work tomorrow.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

I phoned today and spoke to the secretary and was told my case was to be discussed at the meeting today. She was also going to email the surgeon. She said she would get back to me tomorrow. Fingers crossed I finally find out tomorrow.

    Thanks for all your help.

  • Hi Polli,

I am glad to hear that you got through to the secretary today. If your case was discussed at the multidisciplinary team meeting (MDT) this afternoon, they should soon have your results. Don't be surprised if the secretary phones you tomorrow, with a date to see your surgeon. She won't be allowed to give you your results. You will probably still have to wait to se your surgeon, but at least this has reminded them that you are still waiting and it shouldn't be much longer before you find out.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

I never thought back in November after being recalled for mamogram I would still be here waiting. Thanks for all the helpful information you have given me. It means a lot. One step closer and hopefully no steps back!

  • Hi Polli,

I'm sure that you never expected this delay. Here's hoping that you are on the right track now.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jolamine,

I got my results today, Benign. It is such a relief but I have a better understanding what others go through!

Thank you for all your help.
