2ww complex ovarian cyst

hi,

I have been referred to gynaecology on the two week pathway following an ultrasound which identified a complex ovarian cyst, with characteristics of “vascular septations” and a solid component. It also found a ‘distended endometrial cavity’ (not really sure what this means).

In terms of symptoms, I’ve been experiencing irregular bleeding and some dull pressure type pelvic pain, as well as a change in bowel habits and frequent urination. I’m due to have a blood test soon to assess for the CA125 marker.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice / has had a similar experience?

also looking for any helpful questions to ask at my gynaecology appointment please as I’m not sure what to expect.

Thank you!

  • Hello petal88,

I can imagine this is a stressful time for you at the moment as you have been referred on the 2 week pathway and I hope that you won't have to wait long to be seen and that you can have the blood test quickly. Our website has information on the CA125 marker but it is important to bear in mind that other medical conditions of the womb and ovaries can also raise the levels of CA125 and not just ovarian cancer.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had a complex ovarian cyst before and if you do a search on our forum through our search function located at the top, you will be able to see all the other recent threads on this subject and respond to any if you wish. I had a little look for you and found  's thread entitled complex ovarian cyst gynaecology referral  posted about 9 months ago so don't hesitate to reply and share your own experience. Talking to others who are a bit further along the line in terms of diagnosis and treatment may be helpful and give you an indication as to what to expect and what questions you could ask at your gynaecology appointment. Make sure you write down these questions ahead of your appointment as it's so easy to forget sometimes what we meant to ask. Questions could be for example about whether this cyst will need to be removed, what the treatment options are and I guess the type of questions you might ask may vary depending on the results of your CA125 tests or other tests prior to your appointment. I will let our members who have been through this before guide you and advise you on what questions they themselves asked or would suggest you ask given they have been there before themselves.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern and that you get some definite answers very soon.

    Best wishes,
