Multiple symptoms: ragged endometrium, thickened endometrium. Referred for a hysteroscopy

I have had an internal scan due to post menopausal bleeding, the results are a ragged endometrium, fluid in the womb and thickened endometrium. I have been referred for a hysteroscopy, are they likely to do a biopsy?

I am not sure what a ragged endometrium is either?

  • Hello Taniluke,

I am sorry to hear about these symptoms you have had which have led to this internal scan which flagged a ragged endometrium, fluid in the womb and a thickened endometrium. There is information on our website on the hysteroscopy which does mention that "this test uses a very thin telescope called a hysteroscope. Your doctor uses it to look into your womb and take a biopsy. It takes about 10 minutes." So it does sound like the hysteroscopy normally involves taking a biopsy.

I am not sure myself what it means to have a 'ragged endometrium' but feel free to give your GP a call and ask for more information to help you understand these results. Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 if you would like to talk thing through with them - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope that you will hear from other members of our community who have had similar symptoms and results and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Taniluke

I have just been diagnosed with Endometrial Csncer. I am booked in for Surgery this coming Monday.

I had Post Menopausal bleeding and contacted my GP straight away and was seen in Gynaecology in a few days.

They did Scans and a biopsy and it came back cancerous so I am having a complete Hysterectomy and I may have to have Radiotherapy afterwards.

So I do know what you are going through, it's all very daunting and feels very Surreal.

I have never heard of a ragged Endometrium so I can't help you there sorry, hope they get to sort you quickly. Take Care
