4 weeks until CA125 results, is this normal?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if a 4 week wait was normal for ca125 results. I had full bloods taken today and some swabs due to a few things I've experienced recently

I've looked on the NHS app and the majority of my results are back and within range. A handful including the CA125 results won't be back until 19th March.

In the last 6months I've had two separate occasions where I have experienced excruciating pain under my right rib. I went to the doctors and they suspected gallstones. This was ruled out by a scan, though blood tests showed an infection.

I've put on a lot of weight so I do wonder I most of my otyer recent symptoms are related to this. But the weight is on my stomach and hips. I havent changed anything in my lifestyle.

I have a very localised pain on my left side about two fingers width above my csection scar (10 years old) and back pain

This month i came on my period two weeks after I had commenced, I feel very run down and tired, fuzzy headed and have a head ache most days at the moment. My legs, feet and hands are swollen.

My appetite seems okay, but I cant eat as much not because I feel full, I just have nausea and I'm so so thirsty.

This all could be a combination of factors that coincidently have come all at once. But I am slightly concerned

More so with I can 100% feel pain in that localised area and have bled out of sync

I phoned the doctors and she said she would do bloods and if that showed anything then fast track a scan. But the bloods are already going to take 4 weeks which means a non urgent scan will be even longer than this.

I also had swabs today and they found a polyp on my cervix which the nurse said wouldn't cause the pain I was describing. But could be the cause of my bleed.

I guess I just wanted to see if anyone else had waited this long for results. Could it be that my others were within range so they weren't deemed urgent?

Thank you in advance xx

  • Hi Fuzzyduck and welcome to the forum.

The wait for results can depend on many things e.g. what part of the UK you're based in and if that particular department in the hospital where you had your tests are dealing with any delays or backlogs. If it says on your record that your ca125 results won't be back until the 19th March then this may be the case, but you could always give the hospital a ring to get an update and check if they might be back sooner than that.

Hopefully some of our members who have waited for ca125 results will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but if you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our cancer nurses you can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Waiting for results is always a challenging time but we are here for you Fuzzyduck and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,

  • Ive had a message from the doctor to say she would like to speak to me on the 4th March in regards to my results.

I then had another message come through today to ask if they could repeat the ca125 test to get a clearer picture.

My mind is in overdrive. The previous results haven't been uploaded to my NHS portal but I'm assuming the doctor has them and that's why they'd like a repeat

  • Just an update incase anyone reads in the future

    22nd Feb

After the message the doctor called me the next day.

She told me that my ca125 are raised and asked me how I was feeling. I told her much the same and that I was getting more tired.

As my symptoms were still present she asked me to keep my blood test, and she wanted to book a scan.

She did tell me that there were many reasons a ca125 blood test could be raised and at this stage is not concerned and neither should I be. She said it could have been that I'd been on my period or that I was in at a pre menopausal age.

    25th Feb

On top of the above symptoms I started to get a bad back ache. But surprisingly the localised pain in my lower csection area has subsided and is not as bad.

I look like i have lost a bit of weight but stomach is still distended. I'm guessing this is due to me not being able to eat as much anymore from the nausea stage, which isn't a bad thing!

My headaches are still present and I feel like I have a bit of a cold coming (partner has said the same) so I'm wondering if the run down feeling was a cold brewing making me tired and bleurgh!

Blood test is booked for the 28th and I'm still awaiting my scan date.

I'd say today I feel a bit more me and much better than last week
