Awaiting surgery

I found a lump in my left breast 3 years ago that turned out to be a Fibroadenoma, then November 23 I found one in my right breast. I went to my gp who did a 2 week referral to the breast clinic, I went and had a ultrasound and a biopsy, my follow up appointment was made for after new-year. I rang the clinic after 2 week just before christmas and was told it went to a mdt meeting but yeah it's a cyst but would still need to attend my follow up after new year. I went to My appointment and was examined again and told it needs to come out ot messaured 4.7 by 5 so was a big lump and he can't be sure it is a Fibroadenoma and was still a 15%-20% chance it was a phyllodes tumors. To say I was shocked at thos as I had been told it was "just a cyst" so now I'm awaiting surgery in March to remove the lump and get it tested again. Apparently a phyllodes tumors presents the same as a Fibroadenoma and can biopsy like one aswel. I have like a slight pulled muscle feeling halfway down my arm and no worry that it's connected to the lump. I'm o ly 37. Has anyone had a similar experience to mine and what was your outcome. Also how was the op and recovery. Thank you in advance ️

  • Hi Justmeandmine,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this differing information must have caused some concern and uncertainty. It's good to hear that it's not too long to wait for your surgery and hopefully then any further information to follow.

My reply here will boost your post so a few more people should see it, and if anyone has similar experience to share then hopefully you'll get some more replies soon.

If you'd like some info on what to expect with the surgery and recovery, you can also have a chat to your doctor, or you are also welcome to speak to our nurses on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

  • Hi Justmeand mine,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I can fully appreciate how frustrating this wait must be for you, but it's good to hear that your care team is not taking any chances of a mis-diagnosis. You are as well to have this removed and tested. before it gets a chance to grow any more and I sincerely hope that it turns out to be a benign Fibroadenoma. Remember that the odds you've been given could also point to an 80-85% of it being a Fibroadenoma, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will be the case.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
