Vaginal cancer ??

Hi and help!

I'm feeling so worried.  I found a lump in my vagina on Sunday and went to the doctors on Monday.  After an examintation he looked so worried and said it could be cancerous and has referred me to hospital as urgent (under the two week rule).. He said i would probably be seen next week but the appointment has just come through for 26th Feb.  It seems so far away i can't cope...

Does anyone have advice about going private?  Would it speed thigs up?  I don't even know how to start or what to expect at the first appointment .. I guess i am still in panic mode

  • Hello jenniferC

I'm sorry to hear that you recently discovered a lump. You did exactly the right thing in going to see your GP and it's good to hear that you already have an appointment arranged with the specialist.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult. Sometimes seeking a private appointment can speed up the diagnosis appointment but this isn't always the case. If it's something that you want to pursue then do speak with your GP as a referral from them may be necessary. They may however advise that your best option is to wait for your appointment on the 26th Feb.

In the meantime, you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can ahead of your appointment. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Try to keep busy over the next week and avoid searching the internet for answers as this will help your anxiety. Hopefully when you see the specialists in just over a week, they will be able to give you some reassurance at that appointment.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
