Bottom Bleeding

Hello. I have posted about this before but just an update.

When I go to the toilet I get blood on the toilet paper, sometimes just a little bit, sometimes a bit worse, but nothing in the toilet or visibly on/in the stool. The thing is I believe I've had this for years but I'm not totally sure as I did suffer from fissures years ago which last many years (never did anything about them). The bleeding isn't all the time, it comes and goes. It will happen for a while, then stop and I'll be fine for a while, then it will start again and so forth. I don't appear to have any other symptoms of anything.

I did go to the doctor about this probably over a year ago now and he thought I had internal haemorrhoids. The thing is, he only looked around, he didn't have an internal feel or offer any tests or any treatments.

Anyway since then I have been back to the doctors and he gave me a digital rectal exam and everything was okay. I was also been referred for further tests, blood tests, stool sample, and camera up the bottom. I have since had the blood tests and everything was okay except my platelets were apparently a bit higher than normal (not sure about details here) which I was told indicated an infection. I have had many FBC blood tests before and this has never come up but I was told if it was serious I would have been contacted. Should I be worried about this? Clearly the doctor isn't concerned.

My stool sample came back ''normal: no action'' which is good because I was fully expecting it to be positive but where does that leave me with the blood on the toilet paper issue?

Anyway my camera appointment isn't for a couple months and I have to wait 2 weeks just to speak with the doctor on the phone about my recent test results so clearly there is no urgency here.

  • Given that your stool sample came back normal, the odds of anything serious is extremely low. That means it is very likely that it is something like hemorrhoids or a fissure. Sounds like they are being super-cautious by doing a camera check.

  • Hi. The camera referral was done by my doctor when I went to see him before I had the other tests. I assume he did this because I already had a bleeding issue. So I'm guessing even if I did the stool sample first, and it being okay, he'd still refer me for a camera to confirm what's causing the bleeding (?). If the stool sample is clear what does that mean anyway? That the bleeding is closer to the anus region? Can you get internal fissures? Do I even need to have a camera seeing as the stool sample was okay?

  • The colonoscopy is the best way of finding if things are wrong i had a negative fit test in July 2022 and in December 2023 i had a positive fit test then in January 2024 i had a colonoscopy and they found a 5 cm tumour
