Frequency of colonoscopy

I had a colonoscopy 2 years 2 months ago and had 6 small polyps removed. Blood was recently detected in my faeces.  Do I need another colonoscopy? My father had bowel cancer. I have gut pain and .my back passage feels sore or painful after passing a  motion. A gp diagnosed me with IBS some years ago. There is a history of ulcerative colitis in my father and brother and nephew. Thanks . The GP thinks I have bowel cancer  even though I have not been tested. Its worrying  me.

    I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health problems that have recently worsened. Naturally, you're feeling concerned particularly as you have family members who are living with a bowel condition.

    You mention that your GP thinks you may have bowel cancer. Have they referred you to see a specialist? Hopefully, this has already been done and it will be up to the specialists to decide what further investigations are appropriate which may include another colonoscopy. 

    It's understandable that you're feeling worried and hopefully you will have an appointment with the specialists soon. In the meantime, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
