Mole biopsy booked in for next week

Hi everyone, I hope you're well!

In 2019 I noticed a new mole on my face so I went to the Mole clinic and they said it looks benign. I went back in every 6 months just to have it checked out. Since then It's grown slowly but the main factors of concern at the moment is how dark it's gone, the growth & the boarder. They took some pictures via Dermascope and the nurse called me the next day to say it could be premalignant so we should do biopsy.

Anyway I had to book in another appointment for them to discuss what they are going to do next. He didn't seem as bothered or cautious like the other Dr who did my referral. As usual they say 'given your ethnicity, its unlikely to be cancerous but we will do a biospy for your peace of mine'. Cancer does not discriminate...

My Biopsy is next week, I am feeling really nervous I guess. I just did not want to take the risk, this is a dodgy mole and I have that gut feeling. Can't stop thinking about it now!

Sorry, I don't know what I want to get out of this post but just wanted to get out what was on mind I guess.

  • Hi,

It's normal to be anxious but try to distract yourself until the biopsy is done & you have the results. 75% of patients seen by a dermatologist find their mole was either benign or precancerous (dysplastic/atypical). Of the 25% that are melanoma, 90% of these have been caught so early that they are called in situ melanoma because they are only on the skin and haven't grown into the dermis. So the odds that yours will be fine or easily treatable are high.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • Hi Angie

Thank you for your response. That has made me feel better. I have been distracting myself which has been good! Either way i’m just glad that i’ve been tracking it since 2019.

Yes, i will update you with the results :)
