Question time answers appreciated

Question? Pre-malignant cells showing on photographic images dermatology mole/lesion surgical appointment been given not waiting for biopsy dermatologist wants removal then testing biopsy what happens if biopsy results same as photographic report is that it cured becouse its caught early and not actually malignant

  • Hi,

There are 3 options that a biopsy can show. One is that the mole is benign, the second is that it's pre-cancerous (also known as dysplastic or atypical) and the third is malignant (melanoma).

If the biopsy shows the mole is precancerous, as shown in the images, it's been caught very early before it becomes malignant. I hope this helps,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
