Colonoscopy findings

Hi all

I’ll try to keep this as short as I can ;)

I am in my 50’s

symptoms - visible blood mixed in my poo. There was some mucous at times

I have a long history of chronic constipation and sometimes not going for 2 weeks

my fit test was 400

My calprotectin test was negative

I have been given iron supplements

I had a colonoscopy last week and my paperwork says

1 x 3mm polyp removed from my splenic flexure

4 x 12mm polyps removed from my proximal sigmoid colon

The rest of my colon was normal

I have pain on my left under my rib - sometimes after I have ate or drank

i am confused if the polyp in my splenic flexure has caused bleeding how is the blood mixed in my poo? It’s unlikely the ones in my sigmoid have caused this isn’t it?

any advice would be amazing thank you

x

  • Hi Lucylou32 and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately no-one here can interpret the findings from your colonoscopy but hopefully it won't be long until your results are discussed with you and you're able to get some answers.

Many of our members have been in similar situations so hopefully some of them will stop by soon to share their experiences and advice.

We're thinking of you Lucylou32 and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Lucylou

Not a doctor but I did also recently have a colonoscopy. Mine unfortunately did find a tumour - but I was told this straight away on the day, so if you are worrying about that then I expect you needn't. Sounds like they just found polyps, and removed them.

As the moderator already said, hopefully someone qualified will contact you soon to discuss the findings properly.

However, my 2p worth is that I think the sigmoid polyps noted in the report might have caused the blood you saw - the sigmoid is the lowest part of the colon (whereit joins the rectum), so blood from there would still be quite 'fresh' in your poo. This is also consistent with your very high FIT score - mine was over 200 (hence the colonoscopy) and I was told that values that high probably indicate fresh blood coming from somewhere quite close to the anus.
