Cervical lesion scared

I had an ultrasound yesterday and they found a lesion on my cervix. They have described it as heterogeneous and said it could be a degenerating fibroid but it may also be cancerous due to it's vascularity. I've been referred to a gynaecologist for further tests but I am absolutely terrified it is cancerous. All my smear tests have come back negative. I have been experiencing bladder issues for a couple of years which my doctor said was down to age so I am wondering if I have had it all this time and it may have spread. Cried so much yesterday but trying to be more positive today.

  • Hello Snj15,

You are right to try and be positive if you can - even though it is easier said than done I can imagine. I am sorry to hear that they have found this heterogeneous lesion on your cervix. Try not to anticipate what it might be or to expect the worst as they have said it could be a fibroid too so you will know more soon I hope as whether this lesion is cancerous or not. This is bound to be a terrifying time for you, a time of uncertainty which many of our members will be able to relate to. It's normal when dealing with this fear of cancer to then make connections with the bladder issues you've experienced which may be totally unrelated but do make sure to flag these too.

I hope that you are feeling a little better today and that you won't have to wait too long for results - there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope during this difficult time. Keep away from the temptation to look anything up online if you can as this will only make you feel more worried and won't provide any reliable answers.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
