Awaiting ultrasound results, ca125 normal range

Hi all,

I hope you don’t mind me asking a few questions. I had a full hysterectomy, retaining one ovary, 3 years ago. Obviously, I have not had periods since then but I continue to have pelvic pain as if I were having a period. In the last 10 months I have lost 3 stone in weight and I just feel that something isn’t right. I have back pain and I am ridiculously tired.

my ca-125 result was within the normal range, at 13. I was sent for a private ultrasound but through the nhs and the sonographer told me I should hear in a week but was quite insistent in saying that if I haven’t heard in a week, then I must call my gp. I called the gp today, 2 days after ultrasound as I am very anxious. The receptionist almost laughed and said there was no way I would hear within a week, apparently they always say that but it can be weeks! However, when she looked, my results were actually in but hadn’t been viewed by a doctor so they couldn’t tell me if there was anything to share. This has made me further anxious, if they usually take more than a week why are they there so quickly.

has anyone been diagnosed and had results sent over so quickly?

has anyone else had a ca-125 of 13/normal range but still been diagnosed with ovarian cancer?

  • Welcome to our community, Sally.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through such a challenging time, and it's completely understandable to seek support and answers.

The waiting period for test results can indeed be stressful, and the uncertainty can heighten anxiety, but as you can imagine everyone's story is unique, and the speed at which results are processed can vary. As for CA-125 levels, they can be within the normal range for various reasons, and the context of your symptoms and additional tests should provide a clearer picture.

While I can't speak to specific experiences with quick results, it might be helpful to hear from others here who have faced similar situations so I'm glad you decided to join and share your story, hopefully it won't be long until other forum members pop by to chat with you. Until then, if you think that it could be helpful to ask some questions to one of our nurses, please know that the team can be reached on this number 0808 800 4040 Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing you strength as you navigate this process,
