Low grade dyskaryosis and HPV positive

Hello, I saw another post regarding this subject but there was no response so thought I would post my own.  I was diagnosed with the above during my smear test last year.  I had a colposcopy, but found nothing too sinister but was put on a 12 month recall for another smear, which I had 2 weeks ago.  I hadn’t received the results from my gp but checked on my online medical record.  It shows exactly the same as last year but also referred for another colposcopy, this time shown as urgent.  I have today received my appt through for the colposcopy, for next Monday.  I can’t help but worry that there is something sinister going on in my cervix.  Has anybody else experienced this? Xx

  • Hello Ella-Jayne,

This is indeed a subject that comes up regularly on our forum and I hope that you will hear from the experiences of others who have had low grade dyskaryosis and are HPV positive. Don't be alarmed by the fact you have been referred for a colposcopy and that they have decided not to wait too long for that. You can read more on our website on what it means to have abnormal cervical cells as well as on treatment if you have abnormal cervical cells. I hope that reading the information on our website will reassure you that these abnormal cells are not cancer but need to be treated. Having the colposcopy sooner rather than later will ensure that this can be dealt with soon and that you can hopefully put all this behind you after you have had your treatment.

I hope that you will hear from others who have experienced this before and that they will be along shortly to share their story with you.

Best of luck for your colposcopy on Monday. I hope it all goes smoothly for you!

    Best wishes,
