Mouth cancer

Hi,

I have had a site to the underside of the mouth for at least 6 weeks which is refusing to heal. I went to see the surgery and they didn’t think it was serious enough but have said to contact in a months time if it still an issue. I also contacted the dentist who thought it could be a lingual tonsil tissue but referred to a specialist. The specialist ( non nhs)has recommended biopsy. He has availability to carry the procedure next week if I sign up to it, failing which the next availability would be in three months time.  I feel rushed and would want to have a second opinion, even exploring whether the same could be done in nhs. Does anyone know the waiting period in nhs and whether it’s worth to wait (and lose the appointment window) ? Any feedback much appreciated.

  • I would say if you went with NHS it would take a lot longer than next week ,if the GP referred you on the 2 week wait you should get an appointment within the 2 weeks but not necessarily be seen within the 2 weeks then possibly another 2 weeks to wait if you have any tests done ,it depends if you are really worried and need to be seen sooner ,people are having to wait a lot longer than they would want and it appears even the private Doctors are being kept busy as well .
