Abnormal Hsyteroscopy

Hi all, just wanted to share my story so far and see how others are doing.

I went to urgent care Mon 15th with excessive bleeding. After triage I got sent to the gynaecology assessment unit. Given meds and called back Thur 18th for a transvaginal scan. They measured 18.1 mm thickness and found a polyp. Friday 19th I got a call to go for hysteroscopy Sunday 21st at 3pm. The speed of all this really scared me. Consultant did the procedure and was expecting to remove just a polyp. Once in there the image that appeared on screen can only be described as a fungus type garden with all types of odd growths, some of which looked like cauliflower heads. He kind of implied, well did imply it was highly suspicious and did a biopsy. He said I would need a full hysterectomy and an MRI he said he wasn’t saying it officially but it was fairly clear to him (and me that it looked far from normal)  Now it is just the wait for the official results, the waiting is unbearable, how does everyone else cope? Maybe it’s because I have an expectation of bad news that it feels worse. I just want to get on with treatment. It is really helping knowing I’m not alone.

  • Hello Joey_G76

I'm sorry to hear about the whirlwind that you've been through over the past two weeks. Things have moved very quickly and sometimes this can leave people feeling even more overwhelmed by the process and what might lie ahead.

It's good to hear that the team is moving swiftly to try and resolve this for you and hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for the MRI, the results, and subsequent surgery date.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult. It can sometimes help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it beneficial to chat with one of our team of nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Joey_G76 and let us know how you get on over the coming weeks.

    Best wishes,
