Gallbladder Referral

I àm SO worried.  I had an ultrasound for a suspected gallstone and it has been found that I also have numerous polyps.  The ultrasound technician told me at the time that she was going to recommend to my go that I see a specialist (all other areas scanned - liver, kidneys, pancreas etc were normal).  The doctor rang about a week later to say that she was going to refer me to a consultant and that he may wish to see me or put me on the waiting list for a gallbladder removal.  I was not unduly worried at this point but looked at my documents on the NHS app and saw that the go had made an urgent referral and now I am beside myself with worry.  Can anyone suggest why this might be please??????

  • Hello Greenacre,

Try not to worry too much if you can after noticing on the NHS app that they have made an urgent referral. It's normal to fear or anticipate the worst but our website has useful information on urgent referrals and it is worth noting that "more than 9 out of every 10 people (more than 90%) referred this way will not be diagnosed with cancer". It's good that they are being thorough and by being referred swiftly and not having to wait too long it means that you can get everything looked into and sorted quickly. It's normal to be worried though and I hope that you will be seen quickly and that you get full clarity soon on that is going on and whether you will need a gallbladder removal. As you are waiting and it is bound to be a very anxious time, have a look at these helpful tips to help you cope during this time of uncertainty.
