MRI … Anxious

Hi,

I had an MRI of my liver and MRCP Last Tuesday (16th January 2024) and I’m still waiting on results / a follow up appointment with my consultant.
each day that passes is causing my anxiety to get worse as I’ve been very ill since September and gradually getting worse, my liver functions are ‘deranged’ and I’m sick of taking morphine as it isn’t taking my pain away.

i was just wondering as to how long is normal to wait?

my consultant gastroenterologist is NHS but I was referred privately through NHS - I thought it would be quicker to receive results as my scan appointments thankfully came in quick.

everyone says no news is good news but I now don’t know what to think.

does anyone have any similar experiences and or general experience with waiting for MRI results? Thanks

  • Hello Hope4132,

I am so sorry to hear you have been feeling so ill since September and that you are anxious about your MRI results and I hope that you will get these soon and that you won't have to wait too long to have this follow up appointment with your consultant. The MRI will soon give you answers but the wait for results can be so stressful and this is something many of our members will be able to relate to. According to our website page on the MRI scan, you should be getting your results within 1 to 2 weeks so if you haven't heard anything back after 2 weeks, make sure you contact the doctor who arranged the test just to check when you might get your results. It won't be long now for sure until you find out more.

You're not alone I am sure in being in this situation of waiting and feeling very anxious and I thought I would share with you these helpful tips to help you cope during this uncertain time. Other members of our community may have experienced this before and will be along shortly I am sure to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be reassuring news.

    Best wishes,
