Second opinion

Hi all

sorry to make another post

Does anybody have experiences with second opinions?
I saw a specialist yesterday who looked at an Opg  x ray and felt my lump and told me that’s just the way my face is? When it is not just how my face is, I did makeup art on my own face for years so know my own structure very well and my jaw was even and normal, I noticed this lump in November last year

she is still doing me a ct scan as I gave her a funny look but it’s no longer on the cancer pathway and will be routine which might take 10 weeks.. which seems far too long if it is something bad I also told her it’s been growing how can it keep growing if it’s a normal part of my face?
for context I discovered a hard non movable lump on my jawline right next to my chin on the right side, she didn’t even ask me about any oral symptoms I experience only symptoms around the lump and if she asked I would have been able to say I’ve had a sore throat for a year, I constantly need to clear my throat I get tinnitus, I also get numb feelings in my mouth

Any advice on how to go about this with the nhs?

  • Hello WitchyTaco,

I am very sorry to hear about your experience with this specialist - I can understand why you were not very impressed as you obviously know yourself how your face is and if something is not as it should be especially if you discovered it's been growing. It's also a real shame you were not able to go into detail about the oral symptoms you have experienced for over a year, the constant need to clear your throat, the numb feelings in your mouth as well as the tinnitus. You are completely entitled to have a second opinion if you are not feeling totally satisfied with your experience and you can find out more about this on our website - we have useful information on getting a second opinion

Other members of our community may have been in a similar position before and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you - they will I am sure be able to tell you more about how they went about it and whether it was beneficial to them.

I hope you manage to talk to someone about this soon and that you get to see another expert who will listen to you and evaluate all your oral symptoms as well.

    Best wishes,
