Recently inverted nipple and tender breast

Hi all, I'm 34 and recently noticed my right nipple tends to become inverted at times. More so if I raise my arm or when I have my bra on. I recently lost a lot of weight and initially put it down to that, but with it only being in 1 breast it got me worried slightly. I've been referred on the breast clinic buly the doctor but I'm a worried mess at the moment. I've done lots of googling, which I know is the worst thing to do, but I see a lot of breast cancer in young women tends to be more aggressive. I have 4 kids, youngest is only 1 and I'm beside myself with worry. Has anyone else had this and it wasn't cancer? I have myself already convinced it is cancer. Apologies for the dramatics but I'm so worried.

  • Hello Lillybloom

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some concerns about your breast health. You've done exactly the right thing in seeking advice from your GP and it's good to know that you've been referred to the specialist.

We know that many people find waiting for appointments difficult and often turn to the Internet for answers. Unfortunately what most often ends up happening is that instead of finding information they are left even more worried and still with no answers to their situation. Much of what can be found online is outlined, inaccurate, or aimed at worst-case/spectacular stories. If you can avoid Googling then please do so as this will certainly help make this period of waiting easier for you.

It might help to keep in mind that the large majority of people who are referred to breast clinics are not diagnosed with cancer.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope you have an appointment date soon. Keep in touch Lillybloom and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
