CIN3, positive margins, waiting for MDT meeting

Hi,

just to give a bit of background, in 2022 I had abnormal cells from my smear test low grade, and got sent for colposcopy, unfortunately it was unsatisfactory transformation zone type 3 so they were unable to see clearly and advised me to come back in 1 year as the cells may go away on their own.

after an anxious year of waiting, I had a repeat colposcopy in November 2023 which was again unsatisfactory, so they took another smear. My rexult came back as high risk hpv and high grade cells, and I was sent for a LLETZ procedure in December.

I was told 3/4 weeks for results and it was 6 weeks on Tuesday (I understand it’s been the xmas period but understandably I’ve been very worried and sick of waiting) so I rang the hospital and they said they had my histology, and it had come back as CIN1, CIN2 and CIN3, and the margins were not clear. The sample was also too shallow (6mm instead of 7mm needed) and it would need to go to an MDT meeting on 15th feb.

Everyone keeps reassuring this is not cancer, but it’s all I can think about and I really want to prepare for the possible outcomes, as everytime I’ve been told not to worry, it has turned out for the worst.

I’ve been told I may have to have another lletz, which I don’t mind having done (although not happy with the possible pregnancy complications as I am 29 with no children), but I want it gone.

I really just want to hear from someone in a similar situation and of the worst case scenario- could it still come back from the MDT stating it is cancer, or that I would need surgery or chemotherapy? I also need to prepare if I am going to need any time of work as I have just bought a house on my own and worry about my financial commitments.

I am not looking for someone to make me feel better, I truly just want to be told the truth as I feel most people I’ve spoken to just want to reassure you not to worry, for obvious reasons, but sometimes you have to accept the possible fates and come to terms with it.

thank you for reading, if any more info needed please let me know x

  • Hello Sarahlouisie00

I'm sorry to hear about all that you've been through and that you're currently in the difficult phase of waiting for results. We know that for many people this is a difficult time and it's natural that you want to be as prepared as possible.

Unfortunately, no one here can say with any certainty what the outcome of the MDT will be but hopefully when you do see the Consultant they will be in a position to answer all your questions and offer some reassurance.

In the meantime, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
