Dr sending me for blood test.

I am really scared. Female 44.  I went to GP because for the past 5 months I've had no period but almost constant spotting and mild lower mid abdominal pain on and off.

I'm being sent for Ovarian cancer blood test and scans.

I'm so scared. Do I need to plan for the worse?

I've got young kids.

  • Hello Missyell

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing changes to your health recently. You've done exactly the right thing in seeing your GP and it's good to hear that they have requested some initial tests.

Understandably, you're feeling anxious about things but it's really important to remember that there could be any number of reasons for the symptoms you've described. At the moment the GP is trying to cover a wide base of tests to rule in/out any causes before deciding on the next steps.

Hopefully when your blood results come back they will be able to give you some reassurance but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses in the meantime they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any support and advice they can.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi I had a CA125 test and scans which all came back clear.

However I've been bleeding still and the GP has spotted an area near my cervix that is bleeding so I have been refered urgent to a specialist.

    Im scared.

  • Hello Missyell

I'm glad to hear that your CA125 test and scans didn't raise any cause for concern. It's understandable though that you're still feeling worried.

The area of concern that your GP identified could be caused by conditions other than cancer so please don't jump to worst-case scenarios at this point. Hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for your appointment and the team will be able to offer some reassurance.

In the meantime, if you want to talk things through with one of our nurses you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays).

I hope you have some answers soon.

    Best wishes,
