Positive bowel screen test

Hi,

I’ve had a letter saying my bowel screening test has come back positive. They called and said that a colonoscopy is best because I have colitis and I’ve had a few insidences of bleeding.  My mind is running ahead and I’m so scared that they may find cancer. I have chronic constipation, bloating and pain and I haven’t lost wait, but don’t gain it either.

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Shany.

I'm sorry to hear about your current situation. It's understandable to feel anxious about the positive result on your bowel screening test. While I can't provide medical advice, it's positive that you're addressing your concerns. Your healthcare team can offer support and answer questions.

Hopefully other forum members who have gone through a similar experience recently will come along to share their experiences with you. Until then, if you think that asking questions to someone with a medical background might help, our team of nurses can be reached on this number 0808 800 4040 Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    With best wishes,

  • I am in the same situation.  Awaiting call from hospital to do a colonoscopy.  i have had IBS for a number of years, but for the last two weeks whenever I eat within 30 minutes I have very bad pain in my belly and have to rush to empty my bowl.  My Doctor requested a stool test and the result, they found a small amount of blood.  I am trying to stay positive. I am encouraging you to stay positive.

  • Thank you for your reply, I have colitis and was ill before I went on holiday with stomach pains, violently sick and emptying my bowels. Now I’m in constant pain and have been chronically constipated for over a week.
