What should I expect?

Hi everyone

I posted in here before about a hard non movable jaw lump.  I had an ultrasound done and my doctor told me there is a chance it may be cancer so I need an MRI

I was referred to the maxillofacial specialist and my appointment is on Wednesday it doesn’t say about an MRI but does anybody know if they will do the test at the appointment after speaking to me or will I have to wait for it? And if the MRI is for suspected cancer does anybody know how quickly they look at the results?
thank you all

  • Hello Witchytaco

I'm sorry to hear that your recent ultrasound has led to you needing further investigations with the ENT specialist. It's good to know that your appointment has already been made. Hopefully the specialist will be able to give you some reassurance later this week.

Usually, MRIs aren't done during clinic appointments but the specialist will examine you and may want to conduct some tests during the appointment. This thread is a few years old but it shares some patient experiences that you might find helpful.

If you'd like to speak with one of our nurses at any point you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on later this week.

    Best wishes,
