Pain breast cancer??

Hello. Looking for someone with some advice or anything similar...

I've had pain on and off in my right breast for a few months, put it down to period/ hormones. I eventually got an appointment and went to the dr yesterday. My husband and I have done lots of checks on the breast never felt anything but the dr said she could feel 'something' yesteday and on my notes it says 'lump'. It hurts when pressing this area. I've been referred for a scan a week Sunday.

My mum has not long got over breast cancer hherself. I have have two young children including a 7 month old, I am terrified! The pain feels like its constant now !.

  • Hello Kjc87,

I am sorry to hear about this pain you have experienced in your right breast in the last few months. You did well to go and get this checked out by a doctor. It's good you won't have to wait too long now for your scan. It's normal to be terrified at this stage especially as you don't know really what to expect and with your mum having had a breast cancer diagnosis in the past but it's worth bearing in mind that a majority of referrals for breast related concerns turn out not to be cancer but it's important to be thorough and check things properly. I am keeping everything crossed for you that it is nothing of concern and that you find out very soon what this pain might be and also that it gets treated. We have information on our website on being referred to the breast clinic which I hope you will find useful. The hardest thing really at the moment for you is what can feel like an interminable wait for tests and results so I thought I would share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

As it happens, I just welcomed another lady   to the forum, who was in a very similar situation to you - she has been experiencing pain in both breasts and is also waiting for additional tests so she will completely understand how you are feeling at the moment. You can read her story on this page and feel free to respond to her and share your own experience. It does help to talk to someone else who is in a similar boat and this is what this forum is about too really, bringing people with shared experiences together.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern and that you get treated for this pain and find out soon what may have caused it.

    Best wishes,
