Smear test

Hi

so last week had a smear test (first ever) the nurse carrying it out mentioned that my cervix looked abnormal, no skin on it, red and bleeding so this along with the symptoms I have been having she had concerns and has done an urgent referral which I’m still waiting on appointment for, as you can imagine I have been panicking as it was referred for ‘signs of malignancy’

in the meantime I have had my smear test results today and they read normal, I’m just wondering if this means there is no possible way of me having cervical cancer and can put my mind at ease or is this still possible

thanks

  • Hello ccde98

I'm sorry to hear that you're now waiting for an appointment with the gynaecology team after your recent cervical screening appointment. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

It's good to hear that your cervical screen results returned as normal. This is certainly a positive note to hold on to whilst you're waiting to see the specialist.

I wonder if you might find it useful to talk things through with one of our nurses for some support and reassurance whilst you're waiting for your appointment. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and information they can. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your appointment. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
