Weird Spot on Back

Hello everyone. I feel I'm letting my worrying self get possibly carried away here but I'm just after some opinions before running to the doctor (and this seems like a good forum).

Last year I noticed an itch on my back and when I felt around I discovered what I thought was just a spot, no big deal. But when I looked with a mirror I saw what looked like a little roundish blister on my back. It was skin coloured, clear, squishy feeling, not ugly looking or anything, literally just like a blister you'd see on your hands or feet. Foolishly I couldn't stop myself from just pricking it with a needle and trying to let the fluid out (which was hard being on my back). This seemed to be reasonably successful as it went flat and I left it. Anyway, I noticed days later it seemed to come back again although not as big, so I gave up and left it. So long story short it eventually seemed to somewhat clear up but not entirely. I can still feel that the little area is slightly raised and visually it just looks like a small reddish spot or mark. It doesn't appear to have gotten any bigger but its just there and doesn't seem to want to fully clear up.

Any ideas what this might be? Can you get blisters on your back? Would it be just a bad spot or something similar? Thanks for any help.

  • Hi Phil80 ,in my opinion you'd be much better off going to the Docs ,I doubt very much that anyone on here will be able to tell you what it is ,in the meantime it could be something and you won't be wasting anyone's time by going to see about it ,the GP would much rather you went than wait until it could be something ,also you need peace of mind and you won't get that until you've had it checked .

  • You really need it checking out by your GP. It could be a harmless cyst but if it hasn't fully disappeared it can grow back (I'm waiting for one removing that I've had for 3 years - it's shrunk, then reappeared bigger then shrunk again but my dermatologist wants to remove it).

  • My children noticed a mole when I was wearing a bather a few years ago , I kept an eye on it and also took a photo of it . I had it looked at by my GP and she felt that it was nothing to worry about . A few months ago it started itching and I had it checked again , again it’s fine ,had some hydrocortisone cream and it’s settled down again . I know yours is not like a mole ,but if you are concerned ,get it checked ,just peace of mind . Keep in touch xx

  • Okay thanks people. I am going to get it checked by my GP. I forgot to mention that I did actually go to my local walk-in some point last year not long after I noticed this. Saw a nurse I think, she had a very quick look and prescribed me antihistamines. I remember not being overly happy at how quick of a look she took but it did put my mind somewhat at ease as she obviously didn't seem concerned.
