Thyroid operation advice

Hi, I've just been told I need an operation to remove half my thyroid hopefully within the next month as I have a suspicious nodule on the right lobe. Biopsy results didn't find anything but I've had 2 ultrasounds that both labelled it as u5 so the consultant wants to remove it so they can get conclusive diagnosis. I just wondered what people's experience was of recovery after this operation. I work with children in quite an active job (need to carry boxes and be pretty active with the children) so I'm a little dubious about the consultant saying i'll be fit for work in a week or two after the op. I'm self employed so need to plan for the reality of how long I'm likely to be off rather than looking at best case scenario.

Also, if the radiographers have labelled it u5 does that mean it's definitely cancer? The consultant is being very non-committal until he's done the op but from the tone of things it sounds like they do think it's cancer. Thank you.
