MDT meeting advice

Hi! First time posting just looking for a little advice. Background on my current situation:

November 2023 I went for my smear. Last smear before that was in 2017. The one in 2017 was fine, no issues. It was a while until my latest one due to having two children/covid all in between them years.
My last smear came back as CIN3 high grade/severe dyskariosis (sorry if that’s spelt wrong)

I was fast tracked for a colposcopy/biopsy 2 weeks later. The doctor performing the procedure told me that I had about 2 thirds of my cervix covered in the pre cancerous cells. He told me I would hear from someone within 3-4 weeks.
5 weeks passed and I ended up calling the clinic as I was going out of my mind with worry.
The lady told me that my notes are going to be looked at on the 25th January in an MDT meeting. Apparently there wasn’t clear margins on my results, and what treatment is needed next will be discussed. She told me she couldn’t say much more until this meeting had happened. What could this mean? I’ve done the Dr Google and it’s all miss matched information. I’ve two weeks to wait now until this meeting happens. She didn’t say there was any cancer found but she also didn’t say there wasn’t.
anyone please put my mind at ease

thank you

  • Anyone got any advice feel like I’m going out of my mind :(

  • Hello Sammy88

I'm sorry to hear that you're still waiting on some results from your recent colposcopy appointment. We know that for many people this period of waiting for information and answers can be really difficult and it's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

It's commonplace for results to be discussed at a Multi-disciplinary team meeting so try not to worry too much about this. It's a meeting where all the specialists can come together to discuss the results in front of them and collectively decide on the best way forward for the individual patient.

We know that many people turn to Google for information whilst waiting for results and unfortunately what happens most often is that they are left feeling more anxious and still with no firm answers. lf you can avoid searching online whilst you're waiting for news this may help you feel less worried. Instead, you might find it helpful to talk through your concerns with one of our team of nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information, and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch Sammy and let us know how you get on. Hopefully, you will have some answers soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for this. I think I’m more anxious because the woman mentioned ‘further treatment’ and I don’t know what this would be for. After my colposcopy the doctor said he was sure he had removed all the bad pre cancerous cells and everything else looked good. He told me if all was well I would go back to having my normal smears one after 6 months and one 12 months later. So this MDT meeting is making me think something has been found.
I’ll try not to worry but it’s hard. It’s all I’ve been thinking about for 5/6 weeks

  • Offline in reply to Sammy88

I'm in the same boat Sammy88, had a colposcopy with unclear margins and am also waiting to hear back from an MDT meeting. I was discussed the second week in December. I called the department today just to see where we are at with things and it was closed. ( Probably due to the Holidays.) Very anxious to see where we stand with things. Dosent help that I actually work in the NHS to lol.

Have you heard back from them at all?
