Help with signs and symptoms

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for ladies with experience that can help me please.

A bit of background might help. There is cervical cancer in the family. My sister was diagnosed at the age of 38.

December 2022 I found a lump in my groin so went for tests. A smear found abnormal cells, so I was advised to have another test in 12 months time. I also had an ultrasound, which detected a build up of blood at the back of my womb, diagnosed as adenomyosis. I have been put on the waiting list for a hysterectomy.

Since then I have developed pains in my back and legs, which have become so painful I am on daily zapain pain killers, and have been for about 8 months. I am also bleeding inbetween periods, some months as much as 3 weeks in the month, with as little as 2 days inbetween bleeds. Doctors have given me a contraceptive pill to take everyday to stop this but it has made no difference.

December 2023, I have had my follow up smear, which has again found high risk HPV cells and I have been referred for a colposcopy. My leg and back pains are still present, but just recently I have a sore part on my left arm also, which is sensitive to touch. I feel the pain of it despite the strong pain killers I am taking. I have updated my doctors who are only able to offer me a telephone appointment at the end of the month.

I honestly sit here daily worrying that I have cervical cancer and it is spreading around my body, and the backlog at the hospitals and doctors means I'm going to be missed. My sisters cancer was caught early stages and already it had spread to her lymph nodes. I'm inbetween thinking I'm over reacting and worrying I'm not pushing it enough with the doctors.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you x

  • Ring your surgery and ask for an emergency same day consultation , it is not acceptable to wait a month . Bleeding in between periods should always be investigated , although it in itself doesn’t mean bad news . Explain your worries to your doctor and see if they can expedite your surgery . Good luck x

  • Thank you. I have got intouch with my gp again and I'm awaiting a response. I really appreciate your advice. I've just been feeling like I'm complaining, and with already having the colposcopy referral and on the waiting list for hysterectomy, I'm not sure they can do anything else for me. The waiting has been unbearable though and the pain has put a stop to me living a normal life. I just wake up some days and can't help but cry.
