Cyst not a cyst

Hi all, I had a breast cyst on the top side of my breast for a number of years, eventually managed to get the hospital to drain it in June. It was 4cm x 4cm. When they drained it they put the needle in under my breast not into where the cyst was, is this normal? Now 6 months later I could feel the same lump again so the doctor referred me back to the breast clinic to have it drained. When I had an ultra scan last Thursday they told me it's not a cyst but possibly tissue but not sure why it feels like a cyst so did 3 core biopsies. I now have to wait 2 weeks for the results. I'm worried and it doesn't help that no one would answer my questions or reassure me. Has anyone else had a cyst drained and a lump appear in the same area?

  • Hi Dens,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am not a doctor, but I understand that cysts can build up again after they are drained. I expect that the reason for nobody answering your questions, or giving you any reassurance, is that nobody can, until the results of your biopsy come back. The biopsy is the definitive way of testing for cancer cells, so all of the answers that you're looking for will hinge on these results.

I sincerely hope that this is just another cyst and that all is benign.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thank you for your reply and kind words. Its just a waiting game and a prayer or 2 that it's all OK. I'll update once I get the results.

  • Hi Dens,

It's not the easiest of waiting games. Try to keep yourself busy, while you wait - it helps the time to pass.

I am hoping and praying for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
