Biopsy

Hi, I found a lump about 3 weeks ago went to the doctors they said it was a cyst as it is painful but sent me for an ultrasound just to be on the safe side, I then went to the hospital and the go there felt the lump also said it felt like a cyst, I had the ultrasound was then sent for a mammogram then had a biospy. After all these test I guessed what they found wasn't a cyst. Saw the doctor there after all the test and as I was by myself I was quite scared by that point, the doctor then told me that what they found he is 90% sure its cancer then followed by saying that they have found it early and they it hasn't spread to my lymph nodes and it's very treatable. I have my follow up appointment next week and I'm just confused at how they can say this straight away without getting the results back. Am I being stupid that a small part of me is still hoping that the results come back clear. Or was that the doctor telling me I have cancer?

Thank you

  • Hi Hlou,

I have indeed been very fortunate and I sincerely hope that this can continue. Your appointment next week will be to get the results of your biopsy. It doesn't sound as if you have anything to worry about, but one can never tell. Can you bring someone with you to the appointment? They usually advise us to do this, when going for results. If you have any questions, write them down and take them to your consultation. It's all too easy to forget something important, when you're relying on memory.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on and please remember, that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Happy-days,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear  about the outcome of your visit to the hospital on Tuesday. Cancers have specific shapes and features, which an experienced professional can detect without even doing a biopsy, Very occasionally, they may be wrong, but in most cases, when the biopsy results come back, they are proven to be correct. This gives you a little more time to come to terms with the diagnosis and to prepare any questions you may have  for your results appointment.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on and please remember, that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Hlou,

    Many thanks for your update.

I am so sorry to hear that this is triple negative. No matter how well prepared we think we are, a cancer diagnosis, always comes as a shock. You will probably experience all sorts of different emotions over the next few weeks, but you will feel better emotionally once you start fighting this.

I hope that the additional tests go well and that you are soon ready to to start chemo.

PIease keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you, as you travel your cancer journey.

    Kind regards,
