Frightened - Bowel cancer

Hi all,

I have been on and off hospital for a few weeks now. It all started with a lump behind my ear and then on my a neck - doctor said I had to give it a few weeks but my vision and eating got suddenly worst (tinnitus, blurry vision) and they did a CT scan of my brain - everything looked fine so they released me but then I have had severe abdominal cramps starting- got diarrhoea and then constipation for 7 days , no appetite for a month and weird mucus in my stools.

i am only 28 and I am completely frightened to death. My Mom, auntie and uncle all had cancer and I just feel like it’s unavoidable.

i am so exhausted that I can’t even manage to sleep at night and when I do sleep, my hands get blocked/paralysed, which stresses me even more.

My blood tests are fine though and doctors say that urine looks fine as well - is there any chance it could still be terminal ?

i am so scared - please help

  • Hello MC88

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some ongoing health concerns recently and that despite all the tests you've had not flagging any issue you're still feeling very anxious.

There could be many reasons for the symptoms you've described and it's possible that if you're feeling so worried and anxious about things this is making your symptoms worse. Ultimately you're GP will be the best person to help explore the cause of your health concerns and arrange any appropriate tests, referrals, or medication so do make an appointment to see them again when you're able to.

In the meantime, you might find it helpful to have a look at the information on the NHS website about managing health anxiety. I do hope things settle and improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
