Bowel cancer worry

So about 18 months ago I noticed a change in bowel movements to the point that they were never what you would call "normal" mostly D but occasionally C and recently have become very thin. I went to the doctor who felt my stomach and did a rectal exam with a camera (lovely!) Which all looked ok. Blood tests results came back normal. However he did recommend doing a FIT test as I was very anxious about a colonoscopy. I submitted my sample about 11 days ago and the anxiety has been horrendous! Just checked my NHS app and there's no results but there is a document about 2ww faqs which I guess pretty much confirms the test was positive and they just haven't uploaded results yet. I'm going out of my mind with worry, I can't stop shaking! I called the GP and receptionist said the results weren't in yet so I'm so confused why there is the 2ww fit document on file. I had the fit at a private hospital referred by NHS, I think this is pretty standard. I feel ok in myself, no weight loss or sickness just an incredibly upset bowel! I'm a 37 year old mother of one. I guess I'm just hoping for some reassurance or positive words as I'm terrified of BC and do t know how I'd cope. Thanks for reading xx

  • A FIT test isn't a test for cancer, just for blood in the stool. Many things can cause that and at 37, it is pretty unlikely to be cancer. When I was 40, I had rectal bleeding, weight loss, trapped wind and some loose stools (maybe once a week) and the consultant said I'd be "the unluckiest person in the world" if if turned out to be cancer. It turned out to be hemorrhoids (probably combined with some effects from my thryoid medication and the stress of the whole thing).
