Possible osteosarcoma

Hi everyone I have posted here before but I want to know if anybody has had a similar experience and it’s been okay or known anybody to have been 

found a hard non movable lump that felt fixed to my jaw - right side next to my chin, it can’t be seen but it can be felt went dentist who ignored my concerns never even felt the lump and told me it’s an abscess so I went to my doctor now I’ve had an x ray and ultrasound - I was told it’s a bony prominence which could be any of 4 different things 

the ultrasound guy did the report the next day it says abnormal and now my doctor wants to discuss results and it said ‘recommend mri to check for sinister features I walked away not knowing what bony prominence meant and thought I was free of worry but now I’m not. I have also recently developed pain on the bone next to the lump. should I contact doctor about this new symptom. 

the only other forum I can find online with a girl who had the exact same symptoms and location did have osteosarcoma but I also know that won’t necessarily be the case I’m just scared my health over the past year has been bad

    It's nice to hear from you again and I hope that you will hear from others who have had a similar experience. It's good that you went to the doctor's about this and that they carried out tests and were thorough in their investigations. Poor you it must have been very stressful for you to be told that they were going to do an MRI to check for any suspicious features - I can imagine all this left you feeling rather anxious but hopefully you will have the MRI very soon and will find out what you are dealing with. As it's a new pain you have developed on the bone next to the lump, I would certainly let your doctor know about this new symptom. 

    Try not to pay too much attention to what you read online whether it is consulting Dr Google who will always give you the least likely and most frightening scenarios or reading other stories like that of that girl you mentioned on a forum - as you rightly say, it's not because she had exactly the same symptoms in the same location that it necessarily means you have the same thing. There are so many other things it could be other than osteosarcoma and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern. 

    Waiting for test results can be nerve racking and it's a good idea to try and keep distracted and busy if you can during what can seem an endless wait. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for news.

    I was wondering do you know of any other forums or groups I could post this in asking for experiences? I think jaw lumps are rare in general so it’s hard to find any other experiences unless it’s an animal like a dog ect 

    I am glad they are doing many many test also, although I am very put off seeing the same dentist again. sorry if I seem like I’m over worrying my health hasn’t been great the past year fatigue, constant infections secondhand to firsthand smoke exposure my whole life has me more worried (I don’t smoke anymore but because I did for 10 years and many people smoked in the house growing up I worry) 

    but even with those factors i will try and stay positive! Thankyou I will look at that page and keep myself distracted I need to remember my own advice ‘don’t worry until there is a real reason to’ I’ll update further once I have my mri

    Unfortunately we don't know of any specific forums or groups you could post about your experience in but you may be able to get some useful information and advice about your situation and symptoms from the bone and soft tissue cancer charity Sarcoma UK.

    We also have a team of cancer nurses you can call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all they can to help.
