Gastrointestinal cancer symptoms, which specialist to see?

I have some symptoms including weight loss and upper abdominal pain and want to follow this up with a specialist. I have private health care with direct access so wondering what kind of consultant I have to contact. A gastroenterologist (seems to be doing endoscopy) or GI surgeon. GP no help but says more likely upper GI issue as stools normal. In the Oxford area. Can anyone advise?

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat CD70 although I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms. This must be a worrying time.

    Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but in the meantime, if you'd like to discuss this with one of our cancer nurses, they'll be available from Tuesday onwards on 0808 800 4040.
