urgent pelvic scan waiting times (over xmas)

Hi, I have a raised CA125 (after going to the doctors a few times in the past year with weight gain, irregular periods, hair loss, bloating). Ive been referred for an urgent pelvic scan. I was referred monday gone, 1 week before xmas! Anyone any idea of how long ill be waiting?

Its an anxious time at the best of times but with 2 kids at christmas its something else.

Thank you x

  • Hello konfeb,

I am sorry to hear about your raised CA125 - try not to worry too much though. As you will see in our information page on the CA125 test, CA125 can be raised for other reasons that are not related to cancer but you did the right thing though in going to the doctor's with these symptoms so that they can be investigated properly. You can read more about what it means to have an urgent referral on this page and it mentions that you will get your appointment as quickly as possible - there is no indication exactly of how long it might take and there might be regional variations and things might be a little slower just before Christmas but ask your GP or nurse when you're likely to get an appointment. I am sure they will be able to tell you more.

Hopefully you will hear from others here who have been referred for an urgent pelvic scan at this time of year and they will be able to give you an indication of how long the process took based on their individual experience. I hope that you will be seen very soon so that you can enjoy this festive period with your two children. Despite the anxiety of having to wait for tests and results, I hope you can make the most of this Christmas time and enjoy it with your little ones. I thought I would share with you these helpful tips to help you cope during this anxious wait.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi! Sorry to hear that you are going through this xxx

If they have referred urgently, it should be under the 2 week pathway so I would call and see if they can tell you.

I had a urgent referral for an Ultrasound but they ticked the wrong box and it wasn't until I saw it on the NHS app, that I called them and they amended it. It was a week before I realised. I was then seen 2 days later and they found a complex cyst/mass on the Friday. On the following Tuesday (just gone), the Dr called and I was referred to the hospital on a 2 week pathway. They called the next day and I go in on the 27th. Right after Christmas.

I think it completely depends on area but as soon as they are open, give them a call to chase it.

It's awful having this worry and I have a little man too xxx It's always on my mind.

Sending you lots of love and keep us updated of how it goes. Wishing you a clear scan result.

The CA125 blood levels can be raised for quite a few conditions but I know this doesn't ease your mind! My cyst/mass is half solid and half cystic with Septations. Sounds grim but even that is unlikely to be malignant. The more I read, the more I learn how rare OC is BUT super important for us to get checked out!

Mine is painful and I've lost a ton of weight. I went initially to get my bladder checked as I need to wee constantly! My CA levels were normal though.

I'm still hoping to have it removed even though it is more than likely benign. I know it's super hard to get into the Christmas spirit but just wanted you to know that you are not alone and please let us know how it goes xxx
