2 months and a half and still nothing

Hi I’m Penelope 18F and have had the most difficult past two and a half months. A 4cm mass was found on my chest after I was experiencing chest pains and the doctors think it’s either and infection, inflammation or possible tumour I’ve been asked if I’ve had side effects like night sweats weight loss etc I know those are symptoms of cancer but I haven’t experienced anything and feel generally fine

I was prescribed a medicine called naproxen and I took that for two weeks and I’ve had no pain since but I’m still having a bunch do tests done I’ve had numerous blood tests, Ct scans, PET scans and two biopsies and still doctors are telling me they can’t find anything and that my PET scan was only showing benign fatty activity. They now want me to do a surgical biopsy to remove a lymph node but I’m so over it they’ve told me they don’t know if that will give me a result for sure and I just have a feeling it won’t

the doctors have just taken so long to do everything I’ve had three appointment cancelled on me in a row and had to wait three weeks for an appointment just to be told they still don’t have anything the worst part is at the appointment they told me that I need to quickly make a devious whether I want to do the surgery as they don’t want to wait too long but like it’s not my fault the diagnosis has taken so long it just feels like a lot of pressure on me— on one hand I want to know what’s wrong if anything even is wrong but I’m the other I don’t want to go through another surgical things just for no answer again and I have to make my decision my tomorrow morning

I’ve put so much on hold I’m young doing a gap year but I just want to know what is wrong so I can move on it’s so frustrating — did any one else have to wait this long to find anything out?

  • Hello Penelope and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to read what has happened over the last 2 months. It sounds like it's been very stressful, especially with so many cancelled appointments and delays with getting your results.

Hopefully you will hear back from some of our members who have been in a similar situation soon but in the meantime, if you'd like to talk any of this through with one of our nurses, you can do so on 0808 800 4040. They're very easy to talk to and will do all they can to support you during this very anxious time.

I hope you were able to come to a decision about the surgery and I will have my fingers crossed you are able to get some much needed answers and peace of mind over this soon.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
