Worried about biopsy results

A little background, around 5/6 months ago I noticed a lump on the front of my neck, GP referred me to ENT, within a week, I had appointment with ENT, she referred me for biopsy, had that within the  6 weeks, the sonagrapher said that the mass on my neck was 3.5cm on the right hand side of thyroid, it was sitting in a “grey area” and he couldnt give any indication if it was cancerous or not. The results came back as failed as there wasnt enough cells to take samples from, my blood results came back relatively normal, a tad high for some autoimmune diseases but surgeon says its not enough. The second biopsy was 2 weeks ago, he said it looks the same as last however he has noticed “fatty lumps” at the bottom of the thyroid( he contacted me later on in the day to say he had looked at CT scan i had in 2018 (for something unrelated ) and compared the  lumps don't look as fatty and it has got slightly bigger and is referring me for a CT scan asap,  I then got a letter 2 days after the biopsy for an appointment with my surgeon (tomorrow 18th December) which is exactly 2 weeks from the biopsy which was told it would be within 2 weeks i get the results back. Sorry for waffling on, I just have this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.

My surgery is booked for 8th January to remove the mass. I meet with my surgeon this Thursday (21st) to discuss how she is going to operate. Ive been told its cureable and treatable which is some relief. Hope all goes well for you on Wednesday, good luck xxx

  • Hi Nutteries,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Both you and your husband are right, but in different ways. We always advise people to stay clear of google at this stage. It concentrates on the more spectacular cases, doesn't pertain to you and will only serve to scare you further.  However, many of us find it helpful to talk to strangers, who have experienced what we are going through and who fully understand our anxiety.

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Rosie,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with follicular cancer. I have a few friends who have had surgery for this and they have all been cured - I sincerely hope that the same happens for you. You will find it helpful to write down any questions you have for your surgeon and to take this with you to your appointment on Thursday.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
