Abdominal pain and other symptoms

Good Evening,

I have had on and off but now constant abdominal pain (left especially and from the start but now and top right side too) for months now. My bowel movements alternate between normal and sudden diarrhea very often so all over the place. I have nausea but no vomiting. Diziness also with back pain and headaches every day. No apparent blood in poo. I did not go to the GP straight away as I thought it might be nothing but then went in late September. They first did the wrong blood tests and wasted a few weeks. They did them again and got some results back but not all. The basic tests showed as normal.  They also did poo tests but no results yet. The pain is getting worse. Of course, I checked online like many people and you do not automatically have blood in poo and can also have good blood tests but still have cancer. I have asked to be seen again but they seem to be dragging their feet to go further with test which, the last doctor said, should be a colonoscopy and/ or endoscopy.

Has anyone had similar experiences with no obvious blood and some good blood  test results but bad news at the end as starting to wonder what they have missed with pain increasing too much now?

Many thanks

  • Hiya, I just wanted to say that I’ve had a similar experience and I’ve just today been booked in for a colonoscopy, after three years of symptoms. I’m 30 yo. You’re probably absolutely fine or the issue is a minor one but trust your feelings and push for what you need.

Unfortunately the NHS, particularly GP surgeries have been absolutely useless. I’ve had to become an expert and ask them precisely what they’ve tested me for (getting print outs of all test results) tell them what they should be testing me for, to gradually rule out all of the things it could be. They tell me things like ‘your bloods have ruled out cancer’, which of course isn’t true, or ‘see if your symptoms improve in 4 weeks’. It’s been like a full time job calling them and trying to understand their internal processes so I can make sure they do what they say they will (so often they won’t or they’ll make mistakes). I’ve had to understand what they need to be able to finally refer me for a colonoscopy, so I made sure they didn’t disregard those key symptoms, as well as making them aware, over and over again, of my high hereditary risk of colon cancer.

Good luck! I’m sure it’s nothing, but maybe don’t let it drag on for three years like I have. It’s really frustrating, really not nice to needlessly suffer in silence and it’s really not good for the mental health.
