Waiting on MRI results and terrified of brain tumour

Hi all,

I visited my GP last Monday as I've been experiencing head pain in one area of my head and blurry vision for 6 weeks. It's worse when I lie down, cough and has been waking Me up in the night, so thr Dr refered for a brain scan which i had last Wednesday.

I know there are many reasons for headaches, but the speed the Dr referred me and the fact that they are positional is worrying me. Family has reassured me that if it was a tumour I would probably have results by now, but the radiographer said it would be at least 2 weeks before I here anything, so I don't know what to think !

Has anyone had similar symptoms that turned out to be nothing or know of current MRI results time frames ?

Everyone keeps saying it will be nothing, but my mind is naturally jumping to the worst case scenario, and advice or reassurance would be greatly appreciated, thank you x

  • Hi,

Please don’t worry about the speed, that just shows that someone was doing their job properly.
By coincidence, my wife had an MRI brain scan last week after being admitted via A&E
Her initial report was available within 2 hours but was referred to a specialist unit for review by a consultant there. That report arrived about 24 hours later. Luckily it wasn’t life threatening and she was discharged pending an outpatient appointment in January.

Routine reports do take up to two weeks, emergency reports should only take hours. I strongly suggest you chase this up by phone, if only to put your mind at rest. Don’t be fobbed off by any BS about “it always takes this long” or feeble excuses about Christmas - the NHS is a 365/24/7 service.

This is your life and health - trust me, if it was the radiologist’s family they’d have received the results by now.

    Good luck.
