Hard lump on jaw - ultrasound question

Hi all I discovered a hard non movable lump on my jaw and I have an ultrasound and x ray booked for the 21st I was wondering does the person doing the ultrasound tell you if they think anything might be off? If not how long roughly until they either book a biopsy and do they tell you if they book one if they think it might be benign or malignant?
thank you

  • Hi there - not sure if it’ll be the same for you, but I had my biopsies taken at the ultrasound. The person doing the ultrasound told me I had enlarged lymph nodes and that I needed a biopsy taken. Another person then came and took the biopsy and told me that they were unlikely to be cysts. That was all the information I got on the day and I’m now waiting for the results. I maybe could have asked more questions and I wish I had now - hope yours goes well and it’s nothing to worry about.

  • Thank you for responding! I hope they do a biopsy there and then in my case if they think it’s a tumour, I assume they will because my lump is the typical ‘lump of concern’ doesn’t move, is painless and really hard like bone and I think has been growing -  the waiting is so scary

thank you I hope so too, I hope yours comes back all good and it’s nothing to worry about either, did they say how long it would take you?

  • They told me up to two weeks and it’s been 8 days now - I’m currently alternating between hope and hysteria. I’m sure the waiting is the worst part - I just need to know what I’m dealing with.

Good luck with yours - I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you xx

  • i completely understand that! Once I got my appointment I had an anxiety attack out of no where

I hope you have heard back now and that it was all good xx

  • I have a hospital appointment on Monday but I’ve spoken to my GP who confirmed cancerous cells found in my lymph node but it’s not lymphoma. The cells are squamous cell carcinomas so it looks like we have to find the primary location.  Bizarrely I’ve gone from being worried and scared to feeling quite calm and positive.

Have you had your appointment yet? Hope your news is better than mine xx

  • Aww I’m so sorry that was the outcome. I hope it is easily treatable in your case. That is the best attitude to have is positivity. I guess it helps more knowing what you are dealing with as the unknown is scary - hope you are okay

Ill have to see if they do a biopsy tomorrow and if the radiologist says anything; they might tell me about my x ray results im not sure on the protocol but to my knowledge a report of my x ray has not been done or sent to my doctor and it’s been a week some reason my doctor told me it was an urgent referral but they have it down as routine for some reason.
