Jaw cancer suspected

Hi there I have a hard non movable lump on my mandible, my doctor has referred me for a mandible x ray.
my question is does anybody know if a lump is already known to be there will I still have to wait for the x ray results or will they review them there and then as a lump is certainly there and then do a biopsy? I feel like just going to an x ray to wait for results then to wait again for a biopsy is a risk considering these things are normally a race against time 

she did put me on an urgent pathway as she suspects cancer but I have not heard anything about any appointment yet

    I'm sorry to hear that you have recently found a lump and that you're now waiting for an x-ray. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what this lump may be. 

    If your GP has referred you for an x-ray and not to a one-stop clinic then it's unlikely that you will have a biopsy at the same appointment. 

    We know that waiting for tests and results can be a difficult time and it's natural to be worried. Sometimes it can help to talk things through with someone. If you'd like to talk with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. 

    Hopefully you will hear about an appointment date soon but don't be afraid to contact the hospital if you don't hear within 2 weeks of the referral being sent.

    Thank you for replying yeah I am very anxious I’m 27, just has 3 kids so I really hope whatever it is is benign, And it’s why I want it seen to quickly

    is there a chance she referred me to a specialist or clinic without telling me? She was unsure how to go about my refferal,  I know it says ‘mandible x ray refferal’ on my notes so I assume it is just the x ray - or would you know how fast the results will be if they see something? (Which they will) I saw a dentist who was so dismissive didn’t even feel the lump and told me it’s an abscess without knowing for sure and even my doctors were like ‘well good thing you did not listen’ 

    Thankyou so much i will contact them Monday as I have been very worried and no one close to me wants to hear it because they don’t want to think the worst 

    yeah my doctor did say if I don’t hear in 2 weeks time to make a big fuss about it
