Who sends biopsy results?

Hi, I'm new. I recently had a colonoscopy after my gp gave me a fit test which I thought nothing of. They found and removed 5 polyps one which was red angry and 13mm. I was given the colonoscopy report with lots of colour photographs and told I'd get the histology results in one to two weeks. It's day 11 now and I so want to know what my results are, I'm 42 and have an older brother and sister.

Who sends the results? The pathologists? or does it get reviewed by my referring consultant first before a letter is sent out?

Thanks for any help x

  • Hi Charlsg,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand it is difficult waiting to hear more. Perhaps since writing your post you have heard back about this. As you are still just about within the 1-2 week window that they mentioned, give it until the end of that before calling the hospital to chase, if you would like to.

It may be that the results come through your GP, or you may receive a copy of a letter that is also sent to your GP. Alternatively they may invite you for an in-person or telephone appointment to discuss the results.

I hope you find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
