Virtual colonoscopies are reliable diagnostic tools which will also look for polyps in the large bowel and rectum. The lines are open from 9am to 5pm, from Monday to Friday. It sounds like the consultant is being very thorough which is a good thing and perhaps the colonoscopy will allow to look at the caecum more closely. It's normal to be worried about cancer especially as this has been going on since July but there are many other conditions which could explain this inflammation and it sounds like appendicitis may have been detected and it's now just a matter of getting an accurate and full diagnosis which may take a little bit of time but your dad is definitely having all the right tests for this so it won't be long now until you have definite answers.
