Multiple lumps in neck for months

Hey guys,

I’m just making this post to see if anyone has any advice or has been through something similar.

So, I’m 20 years old and currently have 4 lumps on/ around my neck, the first one came in about 2 years ago but I sort of ignored it because it was only small and wasn’t growing. The other 3 have come in (from what I’ve noticed) in the past 6 months these lumps are getting larger and one of them is rock solid. I went to the gp when I noticed my 3rd lump, they referred me to get bloods done, the bloods came clear so they have referred me to get a scan.

However this was over a month ago and I have no news on how long the wait is or when I will have this scan. Within this 5 week wait I have found my 4th lump and it’s kind of just stressing me out. Does anyone know if over 5 weeks is a normal time to be waiting? Should I contact my GP and ask them?

Any advice would be appreciated

thanks

  • Hello louiselou and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through, waiting for medical tests can be incredibly stressful. It's not uncommon for the waiting times for scans to vary, but if you're feeling anxious, it might be a good idea to contact your GP for an update. They should be able to provide more information on the status of your referral and perhaps offer some guidance on managing your concerns in the meantime.

Also, if you find yourself stressing too much and feel like asking someone with a medical background some questions, feel free to ring our team of nurses. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on this freephone 0808 800 4040

Wishing you the best and hoping for positive news soon.

  • I think it can take longer if they haven't put you through as urgent on the system, do you have an update for how things are going? I'm currently going through pretty much the exact same thing and its very worrying.
