Result ever wrong?

Hello, I had my 2WW appointment yesterday. I went with a lump in my right breast, but they also found one in my left breast. So I had an ultrasound on both breasts. They then decided they wanted to do a biopsy there and then on the left one.

They said they look like Fibroadenomas which I did have one removed when I was 21. I’m now 36. But they said they wanted to do a biopsy just to make sure as one looked a little bit different.

Are they ever wrong about these things? Has anyone been told they think it’s a Fibroadenoma and then the biopsy comes back different? They didn’t do one on the one in my right breast that I originally went with.

Also it was only yesterday - I’ve taken my dressing off as suggested and the steristrips are still there for a few more days, but now looks like my breast is dented. Will this go back to normal?

Thank you. Feeling a bit anxious still.

  • Hi LVwill,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am glad to hear that you have already been to the breast clinic and had a biopsy. Scans can only show the lump and some of the characteristics associated with it. This alone is not a diagnosis. A biopsy is needed to determine whether the lump is benign or cancerous. It is reassuring that they think that yours are Fibroadenoma, but they have carried out the biopsy because it looks a bit different. They don't take any chances with anything, which is helpful, but this is always a worrying wait. Despite this, you have done the right thing by getting it investigated and I hope that they are right when it comes to the results.

I expect that the dent you mention will gradually disappear.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
