Cervical cancer symptoms

Hi All,

I’ve had 2 smears now, both HPV only shown however I had other symptoms so went to the gp who sent me for an urgent referral, a biopsy found I have HPV, CIN 1 & 2. They asked me to wait another 6 months until they re-review me which is coming up soon however, I’ve had more symptoms come up. It started with irregular bleeding which could last weeks now I get constant pain which is worse during and after sex. My lower back is constantly in agony but the bleeding isn’t as bad?

Anyone had similar and what was your outcome? Was it cancer or not?

  • Hello AnonF

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some ongoing problems with your health recently and that your appointment with the specialists earlier this year came back with HPV and cell changes. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

You mention that your 6-month review is due soon. Do you have a date for that appointment yet? It's certainly worth chatting with your GP about the fact your symptoms have worsened recently. They can update the gynaecology department and then if they want to see you sooner an appointment can be made.

We know that waiting for appointments can be a difficult time for many people. Often it can help to chat things through and I wonder if you might find it beneficial to talk with one of our nurses. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you have some reassuring news soon. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
