3rd ultrasound and still left unsure

Hello,

I've just had my third ultrasound for lumps I can feel in my breasts which started around 2 years ago. I'm 22 years old

The ultrasound doctor very quickly went over both of them and said there was nothing there at all. He got me to put my finger where the lumps are and then put the scanner there and asked me if I could see any lumps on the screen. He told me that it is "lumpiness" I can feel but no "lump", and did not feel the lumps himself just used the scanner.

In the past I've had ultrasounds on my breast where they have shown me the lump (they called it a fribrodenerma) on the screen and measured its length.

I'm just so confused how he says there's nothing at all  including the previous fibrodenermas which I can feel and my GP has felt.

It's the 3rd time I've come away from the ultrasound feeling so unheard and dismissed. The last two times I was told that they would do a biopsy if I had been a few years older.

Has anyone gone through this? Should I try and get a biospy? I also experience pain in my breasts and very irregular periods.

  • Hi Curioustable,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear that you had a bit of a difficult experience, and I'm sure this must be confusing and not nice to not be able to get the clarity and understanding, coupled with the mixed messaging.

If the specialist had any concerns at all, they would have raised this, so hopefully this is something to take some reassurance from. However I'm not sure why you have received some potentially different information this time.

You are always entitled to speak to your GP with any questions or concerns about this, including the option to ask for a second opinion if you would like to. Your GP should be able to advise on your question about the fibroadenoma.

Our nurses are also available if you'd like to talk things through. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
